Rajnandgaon: A family had to carry the body of their dead girl on a hand cart after the hospital denied them a hearse van in Chhattisgarh.
The 17-year-old was rushed to a district hospital in
Rajnandgaon with severe burn injuries after she allegedly committed
suicide in her home in Bakhru on Sunday.
However, when they reached the hospital, her family
was asked to pay Rs 750 rupees for the autopsy to be conducted and when
the family could not pay, the examination was delayed for several hours,
a report by NDTV says. The hospital asked them to wait.
After the post-mortem finally took place, the family
was denied a hearse van. After waiting in vain for a few hours, they
decided to hire a hand cart and wheel their daughter’s remains back
home.
This incident is yet another grim reminder of Odisha’s Dana Majhi.
Majhi had to carry his wife's body on his shoulder for over 10
kilometers, with his weeping daughter walking alongside, in Odisha's
Kalahandi district in August when the hospital authorities failed to
arrange for a hearse.
Last month, in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi, a seven-month-old- girl's body had to be carried on a bicycle by her uncle after the hospital refused to provide an ambulance. The girl had died during her treatment at the district hospital.
